Goldcar at Nice Airport

Pros: Overall good service, got an upgrade.

Cons: Car not ready at pick up time.

Cons: Old car (65k), smelling of cigarette, oil warning on when I picked it up. Price charged 40% higher than what I was quoted online (not due to insurance!). No willingness to sort the issue there and then: only after I insisted the lady at the counter accepted to take a copy of my voucher and query with discoverycars (no feedback since). I booked an Ibiza or similar car and I got a Yaris instead after the lady at the counter told me that I was upgraded for free! Poor experience .

Pros: Absolutely nothing, the staff at the desk were unhelpful and confrontational from the start, the gold car wrongfully informed us we’d be charged 10% extra for using a debit card (false) and further informed us that our comprehensive insurance with discover isn’t valid and wouldn’t cover us.

Pros: I was initially given a car that was completely scratched and dented after a car accident. Complete rubbish! I refused it and said I wasn’t a going to drive a csr in that state after I had paid three hundred euros for car insurance !! What a scam! Finally after losing an hour discussing etc they have me a new csr which was good.

Cons: Felt conned and was scammed into buying more car insurance and then giving me a car that was in a terrible state !

Pros: Bad service, just try to take as much money as it is possoble! The inicial price increased by 3 times (three times!!!!). Finaly we refused to rent anything and went to europe car- no problems at all, no hidden fees and etc.

Why i should definately take buffer chier for kids from them (for additional few hundred eur) and ciuld not take a car and simply buy it (it would be cheaper for me)? Why i have to buy full insurance from them if full insurance is alreadely inclouded (written on my voucher)?

Pros: The car worked well, we had no problems.

Cons: There were way too many conditions attached to the car rental. So it took ages to collect the car and there was also an extra charge of 1400€ as a deposit to pay on the day, which was quite shocking. They said that they take 300€ per new scratch on the car but the car was covered in really bad scratches so clearly they don't use this money to keep the car in good condition, which I find a bit gross. Overall although the car worked well for us, we were a bit disappointed.

Cons: The lady renting the car simply LIED. She told that we cannot rent a car without buying a child seat for 80 euros. She said "there will be people checking all cars leaving the park if there are child seats or not". There was noone. They tried to offer us a very used small buttom holder that costs 20 euros as new in a shop. Just awful. Other companies rent seats for 10 euros at times and good seats. And we do not use a seat for our child normally.

Cons: The car did not have a crit air sticker (proof that the car is of low emission) and I was not informed of the need for this to avoid a potential fine for driving in Nice or Cannes. Bearing in mind I hired the car from Nice airport this is something which should have provided with the car!

Goldcar staff claimed that there was too much sands in the car and asked us to either drove out to clean it then return or charge us 70 euros. As a car rental company they should expect some dirt in the car after holiday trip. This is just a scam. If you were in a rush, you may end up to pay the 70 euros charge. Luckly we had plenty of time so I drove out to the petrol station and hoovered car , spent only 1 euro. But too much hassle.

I could have bought a secobg hand one in England at that price I will give you and Goldstar a bad review

Pros: Car rental agent told me that the car had been checked and is in 100% condition while I did find a scratch on the bumper. The car condition was then amended on the contract, but had I not noticed it, it could have caused me a trouble.

Cons: They take money from card in secund when you rent a car but when you drop off car it took too many days to send back deposit money on card. Other companies do it at moment when you back car

Pros: Again it was not made clear they would not accept payment from an online bank. As we were hiring from Nice it feels like a money grab that they charge so much to go into Monaco when so many people probably want to do that. We did not pay this fee as it was a lot for what would have been half a day but it did mean we didn’t get to go. I think it was something like €68, we might have done it had it been half that.

Cons: The car itself was in a very poor state which meant we had to spend quite a bit of time checking the car over so we wouldn’t be blamed. There were some major dents and scuffs and the bumper had a crack along it, I was surprised they could rent a car in this state. It seemed not a single panel or wheel was free of damage.

Cons: GoldCar tried to sell me additional insurance despite being notified that I had the Full Coverage insurance. The exterior of the car took a great deal of checking as the documentation indicated damage on the majority of the body panels. On returning the vehicle a minor chip on the windscreen was highlighted. I received an email within minutes of returning the car with an invoice for 480 euros. I believe the windscreen could be repaired rather than replaced, so 480 euros is extortionate.

First of all they tried to make us believe that we didn’t have a reservation, secondly they kept forcing us to buy more insurance, even though we were fully covered through Discover cars. Lastly Gold car rented us a beat up car, that had many injuries that WASN'T marked as injuries. It was clear that we got a injured car, because we refused to buy more insurance, and we could potentially be charged of those injuries.

Pros: The car had obviously been hit many times and was so severely dented. We submitted a video and pictures on pick up to display the damage. I felt because we did not take an upgrade we were given this car. The car also stank of cigarette smoke. We had a 2yr old in the car and the car was not appropriate.

Cons: Upselling of their insurance, didn't let us know that to travel into Italy was an extra €60, this was never told to us on our agreement, after all, its only around 15 miles away! We were also fined by the Italian police for having snow chains or 4 season tyres on the vehicle, even though Goldcar new that this was the law in Italy, as they told us that. We are still waiting for a refund, but are not holding our breath

Cons: They tried to get me to avoid looking around the car for issues prior to collection. Extremely underhand. Had an over 1 hour wait in a queue to collect. They didn’t return my full deposit without explanation despite getting verbal confirmation that everything was ok with car.

Cons: The service was terrible; I queued for three hours to collect my hire car. The agent I eventually spoke to was courteous and polite but ultimately Goldcar's policy of forcing you into taking extra insurance which actually costs as much as the actual hire price of the car is ridiculous. The price quoted online is misleading and as a customer you are left feeling like you have been had. I will NEVER use Goldcar again and most of the people in the queue said the same thing. useless
