Both a sophisticated European capital and a gateway to wilderness, Oslo is one of the most interesting capitals around. Now connected to the rest of the continent by a number of low-cost airlines, it is more accessible than ever. These are four of the most interesting attractions in and around it:

• Oslo Opera House. Although celebrating its 15th birthday in 2023, Oslo Opera House continues to be called ‘futuristic’ more often than not. A masterpiece of modern architecture, its design is as interesting from the inside as it is from the outside - not to mention all the shows and cultural events it frequently hosts. 
• Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. A large and fun open-air museum, this is the best place to explore traditional Norwegian houses, mills, barns, and all other sorts of buildings. If you enjoyed your visit, you’ll probably also love the Viking Ship Museum next door, the Maritime Museum, and even the Kon-Tiki Museum dedicated to the daring naval adventures of Norway’s own Thor Heyerdahl. 
• Holmenkollen. Experience Oslo's best view from the top of the tower in Holmenkollbakken at the Holmenkollen ski jump. From here you get a panoramic view of Oslo and the surrounding scenery and fjords.Østensjøvannet. While it might be neither the largest nor the wildest in Norway, Østensjøvannet is one of the most easily accessible nature areas from Oslo. Located within the city limits, it is about a 15-minute drive east of the center and is centered around a large lake. A wildlife preserve known for its many bird species, it is a great place to visit for a day outdoors.
• Oslo Opera House. An example of modern architecture and an important cultural center, the Operahuset is one of the most notable buildings of the Norwegian capital. Built from the famous Carrara marble, it opened in 2008. Whether you’re looking to catch a show or just take a glance at the unique structure, a visit to the opera house is worth your time.

The single airport terminal is divided into departures and arrivals areas. There are three piers—the west pier serves domestic flights, the east pier serves international flights, and the new north pier, which was opened in 2017, serves some international departures.

Location

Oslo Airport is about 35 km (22 mi) northeast of Oslo. Motorways E6, E16, and Rv162 are the main roads connecting the airport to the city.

Nearest gas station

Circle K Gardermoen at Fridjof Nansens veg 14, Gardermoen, can be reached in about four minutes and is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. There are many other gas stations near Oslo Airport and on the way to the city.
