We rented a car through Discover Cars and Adobe. We received the car class we booked and had no surprises at the rental counter. We rented the car for 14 days and drove in 3 different Costa Rican provinces without any issues. We were able to explore everything NW Costa Rica had to offer and then some!

We explored La Fortuna and Arenalarea for a few days, then headed to Playa Currillo and Playa Carmonarol for five days visiting friends and then back up the coast to El Coco. We try to stay away from busy touristy spots - had an awesome relaxing time ***food prices have definitely gone up in the last few years… All restaurants, except for Tico sodas are on par now with Canada.

Drove alot. 4 x4 needed for roads for the places we went. La Fortuna, Monteverde, blue river hot springs resort and Taramindo. Wonderful awesome 2 weeks in beautiful costa rica, hiking, birding, exploring and enjoying on the beach. Highly recommend Viator for tours and experiences across costa rica.

The roads we drive in Costa Rica were not marked with Hwy signs. Use google maps. We spent about 40% on dirt roads with lots of pot holes. Just be careful and you’ll be fine.

We drove from Tamarindo to La Fortuna to Tortuguero and back (almost 600 miles in 2 weeks). Definitely do Playa Conchal for a beautiful setting that you can snorkle at when water is calm, be aware its about a 20 min walk from parking to the beach, make a day trip out of it.
Highly recommend Playa Flamingo, very soft sand, waves were amazing, water wasn't too deep for kids, renting the $30 canopy for the day was very worth it for chairs and shade. We were able to park about 20 ft from the beach, super close walk.
