Airport travel guide

Located in the heart of the Gulf Coast area, Mobile is the largest city on the Alabaman coast. The first capital of French Louisiana, it is a port city and historic destination with plenty to explore. Here are three places you might consider to visit in and around Mobile:
- Fort Charlotte. First built by the French settlers more than 300 years ago, who called it Fort Condé, and later controlled by both the British (who gave it its present name)and the Spanish, this fortification is one of the most notable heritage attractions in the city. Later, coming into the American hands and stopping to serve its original function, it was demolished, but was partially rebuilt in the 1970s.
- Mobile Museum of Art. One of the most notable institutions of its kind in all of the American South (MmOA) was established in 1963 and has served as one of the hubs of all things creative in Mobile ever since. The museum’s vast collections cover both modern American, foreign, and indigenous art, and also frequently hosts various events and rotating exhibitions. Visit its website to learn more.
- Orange Beach. While Mobile itself is more of a port than a beach destination, it can serve as an excellent gateway for those craving a seaside holiday. Located about an hour’s drive to the southeast, Orange Beach is known for its beautiful sandy shoreline, and also boasts attractions like the historic Fort Morgan, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, and Orange Beach Indian & Sea Museum.
