The capital of Northern Cyprus, the Turkish-speaking entity that’s politically separate from the Greek-speaking side, North Nicosia is an interesting city to explore. Called Lefkoşa in Turkish, it is notable for the impressive Selimiye Mosque, the Kyrenia Gate, and a markedly different atmosphere than on the south side. North Nicosia can also serve as a hub for exploring the rest of Northern Cyprus. Please note that while the border between the northern and southern sides is open to most foreign visitors, it is not permitted to cross it in a hired car. If you’re arriving from the Greek-speaking side, you can hire a car in North Nicosia and travel across the rest of Northern Cyprus with it.

The single airport terminal serves both arrivals and departures. Anywhere in the airport can be quickly accessed on foot.

Location

North Nicosia Airport (sometimes also called Ercan Airport) is some 23 km (14.3 miles) from the city center and can be reached in about 30 minutes.

Services and facilities

Despite its small size, the airport has a number of shops, cafeterias, ATMs, a clinic, a baby changing facility, and other amenities. Assistance is available for passengers with reduced mobility, but make sure to contact your airline in advance if you’d like to receive it.

Nearest petrol station

Balikesir Oil, located on the right side of Ercan Havaalanı Yolu when heading to North Nicosia from the airport, can be reached in about six minutes. There are many other airports on the way to North Nicosia and in Northern Cyprus.
