Malta and Gozo are lovely, especially Valetta but busy, the roads are very slow, lots of potholes and ridiculous speed limits. Regularly stuck in traffic. Unfortunately the beach we were staying at was polluted so couldn't swim there which meant driving to other beaches everyday. Food is good, weather was lovely. I don't think that I would go back.

Malta is a small island and driving by locals is somewhat 'erratic' - cutting in and no indicators seems to be the norm
Joining some main roads can be fast and furious as very little 'lead in time' from exit

So much to do in Malta and Gozo with a car. Buses are OK but you are tied to s timetable and they can get VERY busy. The underground car park, MCP, by the bus station in Valletta is excellent value by UK standards.
