Only downside was that the Gozo ferry had a huge queue for cars (as we were waiting for my friend to get ready!) so we went round other places on Malta island instead. I hired from Sicily-by-car as it had ferry travel included.

Having the car meant we had the flexibility to visit where we wanted and for how long. We went to Gozo twice as we loved it so much. Our highlight was definitely the blue lagoon, a must see!

We have family here and have lived on the Island too. Great restaurants with hidden gems, if you use Google Maps can be found. We dive great service from Biddies in Bugibba. Visit Marsaxlokk fishing village beautifully restored and modernised where you can enjoy food and drink with a boat trip to St. Peter's Pool. Lovely market selling food, drink, and souvenirs. Bugibba Square was a disappointment this year messy and dirty. Sirens is the opposite with a lido (€5 an hour to swim?!) Loa Restaurant with an unusual menu a little pricy. There are two other eateries here far better for a snack and cold drink. Lovely area to swim in the sea.

Highlights were Marsaxlokk with its colourful luzzu, the Blue Grotto, Mdina/ Rabat and Mosta cathedral. Valletta is beautiful but we took the bus to avoid driving in the city. €2pp
We took the car ferry to Gozo to see Ta Pinu cathedral and Fungus island.
We also went by ferry to the blue lagoon on Camino.
Driving on the left made it home from home. Roads felt safe and parking within white boxes was never an issue, even at B & Bs without private parking. Public transport and car rental were great value compared to other EU countries. Locals were friendly, courteous and very tourist friendly.

Renting a car is a necessity in Malta. It is a small island, but if you want to visit all spectacular places, go there by car, as buses do not go everywhere.

It was easy to navigate around malta, although indicators are not used as much as in the UK! Parking can be difficult but not impossible. Definitely improved our experience in malta by having a hire car.

We drove all around Malta and Gozo. The roads are very narrow and bumpy in places but we saw a lot of interesting historical and scenic places. So we enjoyed our trip and would recommend a visit to other people.
