Pros: Sandra from Steppe Cars was waiting for us at the ferry jetty and the handover of the car was smooth. Dropping the car off at the airport was just as easy. Sandra found us right away and the handover back took only two minutes. Highly recommended.
Cons: The car only had a 1.0l engine, which was at times a bit tricky, as the roads on Mahe island are quite steep and windy. Sometimes I had to shift back into the first gear and couldn’t shift even to the 3rd gear. This is something you need to consider when renting a car there. If in doubt go for an automatic or a car from a higher class. The size of the car was good though, given the narrow roads.

A Young driver fee is not applied.
Maximum rental age is 75 years.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.
The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 2 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.
A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if accompanied by the regular driver license.
In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: passport, valid driver license, credit or debit card on a main driver's name, booking voucher.
The following payment methods are accepted: Cash, Visa Debit Card, MasterCard credit card, VISA credit card, MasterCard debit card.
Only cards issued in the main driver's name are accepted.
When paying with cash, a debit/credit card issued on the main driver's name is required for security purposes.
American Express, JCB, Prepaid cards is/are not accepted.
The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).

When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.
It is allowed to add up to 1 additional drivers.
The first additional driver is allowed free of charge.
Delivery/Collection service is available only by previous request.
Delivery within city limits to hotels is free of charge.
If the renter would like to extend the rental period, renter should return to the car hire office at the end of the rental period to sign a new agreement.
