Hiring a car gave us the opportunity to visit different places in Mahe. North, south, east and west - some if which would have been expensive in a taxi, or difficult by bus. The beaches are fantastic.

Renting a car is definitely a good idea if visiting the main island Mahe. Roads are quite dangerous with narrow lanes, steep climbs and sharp bends. Go for something with good engine and/or low-gear transmission.
