Must visit one or two of the Wadis as they are different to anything we have in the UK. Try the local food, it's very good and not too spicy like some middle eastern/asian countries. Must also visit the palace, the Mosque and also the Opera house. Go to a show if possible

Oman is an easy country to self drive in, even in the cities. With the red number plate, locals recognise that you are a tourist & are very courteous on the road, especially out of the cities. We just did a small round trip in a 2WD, Muscat to Nizwa, up to Jebel Shams & the Balcony Walk, back down to Nizwa & around the other side of the mountain range to Rustaq, on to Barka & back to Muscat. Lots of great stops visiting forts & old cities.
