We drove around the island of Seychelles stopping where and when we wanted. Enjoyed the scenery and the 4 or 5 beaches we stopped at for swimming. The water was a lovely temperature no matter where we stopped.

We had perfect time on Seychelles. I recommend to rent a car and travel around whole Mahe island. There are so many beautiful beaches, trails in jungle. I can recommend to visit Spice garden( Jardin du Roi),it is very nice to see in real spices we use in kitchen :-)

If you are travelling to Seychelles, especially Mahe Island, renting a car is a must. I highly recommend the rental company. They were efficient and no problems with picking the car or returning back the car.

We rent a Suzuki Ertiga 7-seats car for 9 days (whole stay in Mahé), visiting Victoria, Anse Royale, Anse Beau Vallon, Anse a la Mouche, etc. The best way to travel without time restrictions.
Be careful with pedestrian, specially crossing near bus stops!

If you plan on driving in Seychelles (and not live in the UK/Japan etc) - do yourself a real favor - hire an automatic!!!
The roads are terrible! Very narrow, winding, open canals and drops everywhere. The car signaling and washers handles are reversed. So the driving is stressful, especially in the first days. Dropping the need to switch gears takes of the load.

Roads are pretty narrow and usually have a steep drop to the ocean on one side and canals on the other side so be careful when driving, especially if you're not used to driving on the left side. Also, I recommend staying on the main roads and avoiding smaller ones that navigation apps might take you through.
Overall, having a car on Mahe is worth it and allows you to freely discover it's amazing beaches and hidden spots.

Victoria has a one way system. Car parking is available and easy to find. Filling up with fuel is carried out by petrol station staff, so no need to exit car. Coastal roads are relatively flat compared to the roads going across Mahe. These inner roads can be very steep, so beware.

Lovely town but too many cars and too much traffic for an island. Very hard to find a parking in the centre of town. Had to park futther out and walk to town. Traffic lights are confusing in parts of the Town as drivers ignores the standard rules of the lights.

A small car is really the best option; given the narrow roads in Mahe. . .. Even with a small car it was necessary to get off the road at times to let the bus pass, or to let other vehicles have the full width of the road.

We drove the car from Beau Vallon to the other tip of the island to Pointe De Sud. the drive was lovely, giving us a glimpse of the villages, the lovely beaches en route, the vegetation, the locals partying on the roads, the vegetable sellers on the roadside, different cuisines. But the beaches were breathtaking everywhere. Would recommend for everyone to drive along the East Coast road to enjoy the islands best.
