We drove from Cancun to Chichen Itza, which was beyond amazing, even with the constant hectoring by vendors (who we understand are Maya inhabitants of this area who certainly have a right to make a living on their own land). We drove the slow (free) road there and then the fast (expensive/toll) road back. A great combo. The many small towns seen on free road were fascinating.
