What is Full Coverage?

Full Coverage is an optional, comprehensive protection plan provided by DiscoverCars.com. It’s a reimbursement policy that refunds you for the deductible (excess) and eligible costs you might pay the rental company if your car is damaged, stolen, or affected by other covered incidents during your trip.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1Purchase Online

Add Full Coverage when booking on our website. This creates an agreement directly between you and DiscoverCars.com, completely separate from the rental supplier.

2Leave a Deposit at Pick-up

Since the rental supplier cannot see our coverage in their system, you’ll still need to leave a standard security deposit at the rental desk using a credit card in the main driver's name.

3Pay for Any Damage First

If an incident occurs, the rental supplier will charge you for repair costs (up to your deductible limit), administrative fees, loss-of-use charges, towing, or other covered expenses. Keep all receipts, damage reports, and invoices.

4Claim Your Refund

Log in to the “My Booking” section on our website and file a claim within 90 days of dropping off the car
We will review your documents and reimburse you for the eligible charges, up to the coverage limits.

Expectation:

"I bought Full Coverage, so I don't need to leave a security deposit."

Reality:

You’ll still need to leave a deposit. Full Coverage reimburses you after the fact, so the deposit protects the car at pick-up.

Expectation:

"The rental agent told me my DiscoverCars.com insurance is invalid, so I have to buy theirs."

Reality:

When rental agents say this, they usually mean that our coverage cannot replace their deposit requirement. Your Full Coverage still remains valid as reimbursement protection for eligible damage costs and related fees. You can safely decline their extra insurance as long as you have a credit card for the deposit.

Expectation:

"Full Coverage includes Third-Party Liability (damage to other cars or people)."

Reality:

Full Coverage is designed to protect your financial responsibility for the rental vehicle. Third-Party Liability (TPL) is a separate type of coverage, usually included in the base rental price to meet local legal requirements. Full Coverage does not cover damages to third parties.

💡 Did You Know?

Full Coverage reimburses many costs that standard rental insurance (CDW) often excludes: exterior parts like windows, mirrors, tires, and wheels; structural damage such as the roof or undercarriage; administrative fees; towing; lost keys and lockout; misfuelling; and immobilization fee.

What To Do Next:

If you have already purchased Full Coverage, make sure you have a physical credit card in the main driver’s name with a sufficient limit for the deposit at pick-up.
If you haven’t picked up the car yet, you can easily add or remove Full Coverage anytime in the “Manage Booking” section on our website.
