What if my card is not accepted at pick-up?

We know that can be stressful, but don’t worry! First, a quick call to your bank can often clear things up, as they might just be pausing an international transaction for your security.

Step-by-step guide:

1Call Your Bank

Many declines simply happen because a bank spots a new or larger transaction abroad.
Just ask them to authorise the specific amount for the rental supplier.

2Check the Card Type

It's always best to have a physical credit card in the exact name of the Main Driver
Debit cards, prepaid cards, or cards belonging to a spouse or passenger usually aren't able to be used for the security deposit.

3Ask about Insurance (With a Catch!)

If you only have a debit card with you, feel free to ask the desk agent if purchasing their additional insurance might allow you to rent without a credit card.
Every supplier's policy is a little different, but it never hurts to check what options they have available!

4Switch Drivers

If someone traveling with you has a valid physical credit card and driver’s license, you can see if the desk is able to modify the booking to make them the Main Driver. There might be a small fee for this, but it's a fantastic backup plan!

💡 Did you know?

While digital wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay are incredibly convenient for everyday purchases, rental desks usually need a traditional physical credit card to process the security deposit.
Having that physical card handy at the counter is the best way to ensure a smooth pick-up!
