What does Roadtrip Protection cover, and what is not included?
We want you to feel secure on the road. Roadtrip Protection (Mobility Protection) is travel disruption insurance provided by Sincera Insurance.
It covers proven out-of-pocket expenses up to €3,000 per insurance contract when your rental trip is disrupted by a covered event, such as a qualifying flight delay, a breakdown, or an accident that makes the rental vehicle unsafe to drive. It also covers the security deposit in the specific case where the rental company cannot return it because of insolvency, bankruptcy, or liquidation.
Step-by-Step guide:
If your trip is disrupted due to a covered event, you may claim:
- Alternative transport:
Up to €500 for taxi, bus, or train expenses directly related to a covered incident. - Emergency accommodation:
Up to €500 for a one-night stay if you cannot reach your accommodation because of a breakdown or accident affecting the rental vehicle, or because of a flight delay beyond your control. - Communication:
Up to €300 for phone and internet expenses incurred while arranging assistance or reorganising your travel plans following a breakdown or accident. - Vehicle replacement:
We will help arrange a comparable replacement rental vehicle (same or similar category) where available if:- your original rental booking is cancelled because you arrive late due to a flight delay beyond your control, or you are charged an additional fee for the original rental; or
- your rental vehicle cannot be safely driven and the rental company cannot provide a replacement vehicle at its own expense.
- If a replacement vehicle is not required or cannot be provided, you may receive reimbursement for unused rental days, calculated proportionally based on the rental price, plus €20 for each unused rental day.
- Guaranteed security deposit return:
Your security deposit can be reimbursed if the rental company fails to return it as a direct result of insolvency, bankruptcy, or liquidation. - Curtailment costs:
Up to €500 for unused travel costs, such as event tickets, accommodation, or flights, if you need to end your trip early due to a covered event, an accident, or illness requiring hospitalisation.
Roadtrip Protection (Mobility Protection) is not damage insurance. It does not cover:
- Any damage to the rental vehicle
- Theft of the rental vehicle, extra equipment, or personal possessions
- Third-party liability
- Losses related to a late arrival, unless it is directly caused by a flight delay beyond your control
- Losses resulting from failure to comply with local laws or the rental agreement, gross negligence, or malicious intent
- Unforeseeable or uncontrollable events such as war, revolution, terrorism, strikes, or natural disasters such as hail, floods, hurricanes, or earthquakes
- Security deposits which are retained for reasons unrelated to the rental company's insolvency, bankruptcy, or liquidation, or in case of vehicle damage, theft, traffic violations, parking fines, fuel charges, late return fees, or other breaches of the rental agreement.
- Any other loss, damage, charge, fee, compensation, or liability not expressly covered.
"This covers the repair costs for the car."
Roadtrip Protection (Mobility Protection) does not cover damage to the rental vehicle. It covers certain travel disruption expenses resulting from covered events. For vehicle damage or theft, you would need Full Coverage.
"My flight was delayed, so I lost my rental booking."
A flight delay beyond your control can be covered. Depending on the circumstances, Roadtrip Protection may help with a comparable replacement rental vehicle, reimburse an additional fee for the original rental, or cover emergency accommodation for one night if you need to collect the car the next morning.
"I'm covered if a storm damages the car."
Natural disasters, including hail, floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes, are excluded.
"Any delay is covered."
Not every delay is covered. Late arrival at the rental location is covered only when it is directly caused by a flight delay beyond your control. Breakdown and accident coverage applies when the rental vehicle cannot be safely used.
"My rental company didn't return my security deposit, so Roadtrip Protection will refund it."
The security deposit is covered only when the rental company cannot return it because of insolvency, bankruptcy, or liquidation. A deposit retained for damage, theft, fines, fuel, late return, or another breach of the rental agreement is not covered.
💡 Did You Know?
Multiple insured events occurring at the same time and resulting from the same cause are treated as a single insured event under the €3,000 policy limit, including any applicable fees or currency exchange costs.
All additional drivers included in the rental agreement are covered at no extra charge, provided they are authorised to drive under the rental agreement.
What To Do Next:
Make sure all drivers are listed and authorised on the rental agreement so they remain covered.
If your flight is delayed and you arrived too late to collect your vehicle, contact the designated customer support channel as soon as reasonably possible if you need help arranging a replacement rental vehicle.
If you need to submit a claim, notify Sincera as soon as reasonably possible and within 90 days of the insured event.
If you’d like to protect the vehicle itself against damage or theft, consider adding Full Coverage alongside Roadtrip Protection (Mobility Protection).
