What is covered by Full Coverage?

Full Coverage is an optional, comprehensive protection plan provided by DiscoverCars.com.
It works as a reimbursement policy, meaning it can refund you for the deductible (excess) and other damage-related costs you may need to pay the rental company if your car is damaged or stolen during your trip, with compensation available up to €5,000 in total. Full Coverage protects many vulnerable parts of the car that standard rental waivers (CDW) often leave out.

What is Covered:

1Deductible/Excess – Accident or Vandalism

The maximum amount you are liable for under the car's basic insurance for damages caused by an accident or vandalism.

2Deductible/Excess – Theft

The maximum amount you are liable for the entire rental car theft (excluding theft of individual vehicle parts).

3Exterior Parts

Tires, wheels, windows, mirrors, hubcaps, and lights.

4Structural Damage

Bodywork, roof, and the undercarriage.

5Vandalism-Related Damage

Covers intentional damage caused by third parties.

6Hit-and-Run Damage

Damages caused by an unidentified third party (excluding traffic violation cases).

7Assistance Costs

Towing expenses and roadside assistance fees related to the incident. (excluding wrong parking situations)

8Lost Keys & Lockout

Replacement keys and locksmith fees.

9Taxi Expenses

Transportation directly from the accident location to the rental location.

10Misfuelling

Costs for draining and repairing the fuel tank if the wrong fuel is used.

11Administrative Fees for Damage

Fees charged by the supplier to process damage claims (administration fees due to traffic fines are excluded).

12Loss of Use / Immobilisation Fee

Charges for the time the car is off the road while repairs are being completed.

Expectation:

"I bought Full Coverage, so I don't need to leave a security deposit."

Reality:

The rental supplier will still place a security deposit hold at the rental desk as part of their standard procedure. Full Coverage then helps reimburse eligible costs if damage occurs.

Expectation:

"The rental agent told me my DiscoverCars.com insurance is invalid, so I have to buy theirs."

Reality:

Your Full Coverage remains valid. Rental suppliers may say otherwise because they offer their own products that work as direct waivers in their system. Full Coverage works differently—it is a separate reimbursement agreement between you and DiscoverCars.com, not a waiver linked to the supplier’s system. For this reason, the supplier cannot see it in their system, but the protection still applies according to the policy terms.

Expectation:

"Full Coverage pays for damage I cause to other cars or people."

Reality:

Full Coverage is designed to protect your financial responsibility for the rental vehicle. Third-Party Liability (TPL) is a separate type of coverage, usually included in the base rental price to meet local legal requirements. Full Coverage does not cover damages to third parties.

Expectation:

"If my dog sheds hair or I spill coffee, Full Coverage will pay the cleaning fee."

Reality:

Damage to the car’s interior and any special cleaning fees (for example, due to sand, mud, or pet hair) are not covered, unless they result directly from a vehicle collision.

💡 Did You Know?

Full Coverage can reimburse not only the deductible for damage, but also additional costs such as administrative fees, towing, taxi expenses, or loss-of-use charges, up to €5,000 in total compensation.
