Can I use a virtual credit card (e.g., Revolut, Apple Pay) for the security deposit?

No. While you can use digital wallets to book online, rental desks usually need a physical credit card for the security deposit rather than virtual cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1Bring a Physical Card

It's best to have a physical plastic or metal card ready at the counter.
The rental agent usually needs to insert the card into their terminal to set up the security deposit hold.

2Match the Name

Make sure the physical card is in the exact name of the Main Driver listed on your booking.

3Use a Traditional Credit Card

Bringing a standard credit card from a traditional bank is always a great idea for a smooth pick-up.

4Keep "Virtual Banks" in Mind

Many suppliers have guidelines that don't allow cards from virtual banks or neo-banks. Even if your physical card says "Credit," rental terminals often read these as "Prepaid" or "Debit" and might not be able to process the deposit.

5Check for "Embossed" Rules

Some suppliers still ask for cards with embossed (raised) numbers. You can easily check the "Payment Policy" in your Rental Conditions to see if they need this, as modern flat cards sometimes won't go through.

Expectation:

"I paid for the booking online with Apple Pay, so I can use it for the deposit too."

Reality:

Since we're the booking platform, we love offering flexible online payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay! However, the local rental supplier needs a physical credit card transaction to secure the deposit for the vehicle itself.

Expectation:

"My Neo-bank card is a physical Visa Credit card, so it will work everywhere."

Reality:

Rental terminals read the card's internal routing numbers. They frequently recognize neo-bank cards as "Prepaid," which means they might not be able to accept them for security deposits since they process differently than traditional bank cards.

💡 Did You Know?

If you arrive at the desk with just a virtual or neo-bank card, the supplier might ask you to purchase their additional daily insurance to waive the deposit, or they might not be able to release the car to you.

What To Do Next:

Before you travel, be sure to pack a physical credit card from a traditional bank in the Main Driver's name. It's also a great idea to take a quick peek at the "Payment Policy" in your Rental Conditions to see if your supplier asks for embossed (raised) numbers!
