Can I choose the currency in which I will pay?

You can view car rental prices on our website in almost any currency to help you budget! 
The actual currency you are charged in depends on whether you pay online (to DiscoverCars.com) or at the rental desk (to the supplier).

Step-by-Step Guide:

1 Online Payments (Booking / Prepayment)

• Our checkout system supports payments in AUD, BRL, GBP, CAD, EUR, NZD, and USD.
• If your card uses one of these currencies, you will be charged in that exact currency.
• If your home currency is not listed (for example, Swedish Krona or Japanese Yen), the payment will typically default to Euros (EUR) or the supplier’s local currency. Your bank will convert this amount at their daily exchange rate, which may include a foreign transaction fee.

2 Pay at Pick-up (Balance / Extras / Deposit)

• Payments made directly at the rental desk are always charged in the local currency of the country where you pick up the car (e.g., Pesos in Mexico, Dirhams in the UAE).
• The exchange rate for these transactions is determined entirely by your bank or credit card provider, not by us.

What Customers Often Expect vs What Actually Happens:

Expectation: "I booked on the UK site in Pounds (£), so the rental desk in Spain will charge my card exactly that amount in Pounds."

Reality: The rental desk in Spain will charge you in Euros (€). Your bank will then convert that Euro amount to Pounds on your statement, usually applying their own exchange rate and adding a Non-Sterling Transaction Fee.

Expectation: "I can just ask the rental agent to charge me in my home currency to avoid my bank's fees."

Reality: Some rental card machines offer Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which allows you to pay in your home currency. While convenient, the exchange rate the machine uses is often much worse than your own bank's rate. It’s generally cheaper to decline DCC and pay in the local currency.

If you cancel a booking and receive a refund, we return the exact amount we originally charged in the original currency. Because bank exchange rates fluctuate daily, the final amount on your account may be slightly higher or lower than your initial payment.
